How Love brings Depression : The sappy side of life

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

"There are 3 things that you can’t hide - coughing, poverty and love. The more you hide it the more it shows."

                         - "Eat, Drink, Man, Woman" a film by Ang Lee

It seems that I have spent my week watching films…

And again these love stories make me feel sad…it emphasizes my lack of it. Being alone is not that bad you know but sometimes it feels lonely. I hate sad endings…it makes me see the world as something hostile. Maybe that is the reason why I like weird stories..not much romance there.

Romance for me is the suffering srtist. Romance is pain. I wonder if I will live my life in "single-blessedness"…not bad but it can be lonely at times. I read a passage that said, to be loved is to be lovable. Am I not lovable?

Here is my film sked for the week:

Monday:

Film 104: Eat, drink, man, woman - a Taiwanese film by Ang Lee

Geog: Monsoon Wedding - an Indian film

Tuesday:

Comm 100: Dangerous Beauty - movie about Venecian courtesans

Wala lang: Il Mare - (the one Lake House copied) It was the first night of the Korean Film fest at Cine Adarna… Ricky Davao was sitting near us…of course there were other prominent people like Bienvenido Lumbera…but I started liking Ricky Davao since I worked on my film paper - the comedy genre in Philippine context and how it addresses social issues.

Wednesday: I was supposed to watch Tanging Ina at the AV lib for my paper but I had to cram for my Eng 11 paper which is about sociological criticism…

Thursday:

Wala lang 2: Takilyang Peyups - a series of short film made by UP students…Quiet Dinners is my favorite..I almost cried, like in Il Mare

Geog: Continuation of Monsoon Wedding

Friday: my sked is blank. I wonder what I’ll do tomorrow

You know how sad it is to be near someone you like and you can’t talk or touch him? Torture…

Busy….

Yesterday we went to Corregidor for our geography field trip..so much fun..I’ll soon upload the pics…(beware there are so many)… after that I went out with my parents just driving around the metropolis..we tried to explore the mall of asia but our feet failed us…well there are so many people… i didn’t quite enjoy it…but atleast the shops are so much bigger. after that we had dinner at the blue wave…

then we visited our grandaunts in las-pinas. Eventually we had to go home…and I had to nurse my really tired feet… :) anyway, that is all for now…and i must say that I was so inspired about the 1942 war that i might eventually write a story about it.

Life in UP..sigh

My wednesdays and thursdays are so vacant nowadays…mostly since Sir Edel came back…(he had a stroke so he’s trying to lay low) Remember him? My terror prof? Well he’s my fave now… Such a peculiar mind…:)

I just finished researching about m_______…well I’ve been in my new world since last year. What’s weird is that I seem to encounter the same kinds of profs…and their the good kinds too…fairly political but still sensible. And so I spent this sem reading marxist literary criticisms and feminist socialism… all the -ISMs in the world seem to fall on my lap. But they really have a point. Sometimes I wonder if other schools let their students read these things. It actually gives us a wider view of the world…a more unconventional outlook. that way, we can weigh things using more views. I think they should incorporate it in all schools…sigh

I think it was Hobbes who said that if the soveriegn (government) does not work for the people anymore, then it is the people’s right to abolish and replace it. But at the moment, I don’t think that is happening.

What’s new right? It’s the elite who’s up there…how will they hear what we want? Sheesh…spending billions for guns and 5 pesos for each isko…

Yes. As far as I know, Joi Barrios is a feminist writer. The UP Underground Community came as is…in short halo halo ang mga musicians…

Yesterday I attended reg’s debut..one of the most fun debuts I attended… I think it was because of my wacky friends…anyways it was real fun. :) Advance Happy Bday Reg!

I got home at about 12mn…haha…everybody was asleep in the boarding house.. I slept at 1am and woke up at 9:45 this morning…now I’m trying to finish all the papers I have to write..so ciao for a while…and good afternoon!

Wednesday…

I went back to Cavite for the midweek…sadly I will not go home for the weekend..too many things to do. Besides it’s the UAAP cheerdance competition on Sunday…I need to go there.

Life, as usual, is as silent as ever. I start to wonder if mine is becoming uneventful.

I watched my cousin’s play yesterday night. (UP Rep: Damas de Noche). Well I always liked Joi Barrios (writer of the play). My cousin was a good actress and singer pala..haha… anyways my orgmate was also in the lead. Angel is pretty good also. She never messed up her lines.

The play is basically feminist - which as you would guess, I enjoyed. And the UP underground was great as ever. Thye play is a rock musical by the way….

That’s all for now I guess.

Ciao!

Sali na! Wag ng mahiya!

I’m Catholic again…after months of heresy

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

I don’t know either…

Things I did during the week:

1. threw an unsuccessful tantrum

2. wrote my first police beat story

3. stuck my face in books and readings

4. threw another tantrum

5. contemplated my life

6. wrote many many diary entries

7. started to think about being serious

In the end I decided to reconcile with God. He told me that it’s okay and He’s willing to take me in again. But of course I said, "just the two of us okay? no church?" I still can’t understand the deal with the church.
