The Jungle Inside

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Tall, orange-flowering trees stood outside. People moved about on the pavement. The backdrop was not the sky but buildings towering over each other.
I looked at the park from the one-way glass. How perfect it looked from up here. Up here where no one can see you. I sipped my drink and stared. Just then, a moth came flying unto the window. It buzzed about - maybe - from where I was it stood mute. It was trying to get in. Squeezing, dancing, charging into the glass. Atlast it found a crevice.
"Better stay where you belong," I told him. But he ignored me and with all his might, squeezed into the partition.
Squish…the moth lay dead on my feet. I stared blankly at the maintenance man. "I told you so," I whispered.
Outside, the buildings hummed a whispering static of electricity. Little moth you should have stayed away from the real jungle. You should have stayed outside.

Please don’t copy…:) Thanks

Maybe I want to die young

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

I know this is old tosh - journalist killings. The Philippines is the 2nd most dangerous place for journalists next to Iraq. And we have to wonder why. We’re basically in a peaceful state..except for a few mob rallies there is no civil war. Then why are journalists dying?

I read in a newspaper that the Palace is already allowing (or near to that) media men to carry arms. And for the people out there, there is already an association for armed journalists (and they’re asking journalists to support them!). I remember Sir Teodora in one of our emergency meetings saying, Ofcourse we’ll not allow that! and I agree.

The fact that the government is allowing journalists to carry guns mean that they can’t protect us anymore…or they don’t want to protect us.

I am not accusing anything. I just have to ask why people ( I mean the masses and not just journalists) are not reacting about this important issue. The officials are saying that "well not all of them were killed because of work." But the fact that people are murdered in cold blood and they don’t give a damn is scary. It’s still murder. It’s still a crime against the state.

Government: "Here are the guns you need…we hope you use them well..protect yourselves because we can’t protect you anymore."

As I remember, Hobbes (a philosopher) wrote in his book the Leviathan, that when a sovereign (thus the gov’t) is not able to support and protect the people anymore, its right to power is lost. Isn’t that the just truth? But now in our so-called democratic country, we have no say when it comes to these issues.

I’m not saying (what others actually believe) that it’s the President’s doing why journalists are dying but I think it is right to accuse them of negligence. What happened to free press and the right to life?

People always ask me why I want to be a journalist. I always answer, "challenging kasi". Sometimes when I feel cynical I say "gusto ko kasing mamatay ng maaga." If the practicing journalists now are feeling scared, what do the students feel? We feel hopeless. Sad to say, we ask, if we still have a future. When we graduate will our country still be apathetic to our profession? Will we hide behind so-called objective journalism? Will we let them tell us what to write and whe to shut up? I hope not.

But this is what I know I will do: I’ll try my best to make a change. I know I’m no wonder kid. I don’t have the money and the power but maybe a little courage will do. These are sad times for us. You don’t know how sad it is to see our friends shifting to other courses. Why?

Why is it that when I post something wacky that i did i get comments but when i post about important issues no one cares?

Please read this. It will not take all of your time.
If you give importance to this sinking country, read on:

I have felt very disturbed lately because of the news that I have been hearing.

1.) Government and Church officials continue to flock around the issue of the Movie, "The Da Vinci Code"

According to info I have been hearing from the writing community…they say that the novel is very rudimentary in form and not really to be considered a great work of art. Well I haven’t read it yet and so i can’t judge. But then they might be right. The only reason why it is so popular is because of the controversies that surround it and the fact that people keep trying to compare it w/ real life. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s only fiction.

Sigh. OK the R18 rate is fine with me…but banning it? Specially in Manila? What the hell are they thinking about…oh yah..they’re just thinking about their popularity. In my opinion the only reason these prominent people give a damn about the movie is to gain public approval.  They think the masses will look up to them as protectors of the faith?
In the first place the people’s faith stands firm. There is no actual questioning of our religion. And second is that they’re dealing with adults here…hence the R18 rate. We do not think like children. Adults atleast have a concept of what’s right and wrong. And if you believe in this conspiracy thing well then maybe you’re not worth to save…specially if your faith is as thin as my contact lenses.

Final note: Don’t listen to their bickering. Why don’t they just focus on the real issue of the country…its stinking political culture and poverty. Which leads me to the second issue.

2.) The distribution of hygiene materials to jeepney drivers

Ok I have nothing against the promotion of a clean lifestyle…but for crissakes…should we solve this first before the other bigger problems. Like the increasing oil prices? Damn…what has happened to the world? That’s why people become so shallow! Thay don’t think of the real problem. You know I’m trying to stop the urge to curse now.

Oh well I just wish we could be like countries in Europe. My English professor explained to us (yes my fabulous favorite prof) that in Europe the price of oil per liter is about 112 pesos. And they don’t resent this. Why? Well the reason of the high price is because of the high tax in oil. The taxes they get from this is spent on public transportation…clean trains, buses and roads that everyone enjoys.

In the Philippines jeepneys are given I think a 1 peso discount per liter. Not bad at all but not enough. And I agree completely with my Journ prof when he says: how can it be fair when fare price is regulated by the authorities and their principal capital - oil is deregulated? How can there be a balance? How? Has this not yet been realized?

One day i will propose a bill that those who we seat in Congress and Senate should atleast have a minor in economy, political science or public administration. Oh and btw, they should run a psychological and abstract exam at the same time.

Thank you for listening to my sermon..bow

Bum

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

I can’t stop counting the days I have left for summer…I miss independence…but then here or there I’m still a bum…lazily sleeping around (even in classes). Yes its one of my weaknesses…maybe that’s the reason why I only got a 2 for Math. Sigh… I promise to sleep 9 hours a day from now on!

At the present, Royce left again to go on a camping trip and so I am alone for awhile. But I value my time for myself and I think I will enjoy it.

Guys I hope you’re having the time of your life…:) Have fun at the beaches but be careful of those tiny critters under the water… (good thing I haven’t been bitten yet)

Well that’s all I guess…BTW I got all of my favored classes in pre-enlistment again! Yeah!!! I really have a knack for being lucky…atleast i don’t have to wait in line during enrollment..

Ciao!

Excited

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

Due to insistent public demand…I will now write in my blog. Well nothing much has come up except that i havbeen drenched in the rain repeatedly. Note: I had an umbrella - but it has a hole in it…what do you expect from an umbrella bought at the back of AS? Note2: AS is a building in UP…where the oblation run is staged…it’s the hang out place of CSSP majors and mga kaluluwang ligaw - AKA freshies.

Still tutoring but I had a long weekend during the past few days…and so I was able to attend my Pauline’s debut. Yeah dude, happy bdaY again! It reminds me that I have no night life and social life whatsoever. But then I’m always with my friend Royce…but can it be considered social life if all we talk about is politics and literature? But I enjoyed the summer with you! :) Thank you for the smiles as you always say…we share admiration for radioactive sago project.

Besides this awfully boring life I was able to read a lot of booksale books…Well…I guess my life IS boring. But that will change once classes start again!

Plans:
1.) be active in the org
2.) save up money
3.) rock on
4.) have time to write
5.) stop playing PC games
6.) attend a lot of concerts and parties
7.) attend UAAP games -ofcourse I have to, my PE is cheerleading
8.) for crissakes have a social life!

Social life is at its peak at the univ…
So hello guys! I’m back!!!

Additional:

9.) Dye my hair blue, red or pink, let it stay for 1 week and dye it back to black so my parents won’t know…:) Got the idea from Gilmore Girls
Uh oh…my Mom’s here…gotta go..
Ciao! - remember that’s my trademark greeting…

Back pains…

You were thinking I’d write something profound? Well actually I’m just really having back pains…I won’t post anymore in this blog until something interesting happens in my life…:)

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

After eons of not visiting this damn blog…oh well…sorry…curses…

Well what can I say? Nothing..except that I’m accumulating trash in my room and wardrobe…that i actually had to throw out a lot of them…atleast now someone else can wear my still new clothes (that just went of fashion and went down the drain for that matter).

Ok so I just received a question…I’m goth but I like punk…why? Well all I can say is that when it comes to fashion I prefer gothic but right now I’m hooked to techno punk and the likes….and so that’s it…BTW I don’t like emo that much…I don’t know where you got that…

"Konti na lang….pwede pang dagdagan…" *humming* actually I don’t know why I love pedicab songs…is it because that i have a crush on raimund marasigan? - who is said to be married to myrene the bassist…well I still don’t believe it unless i hear it from them…anyways…go Franz Ferdinand!! Connection?

Lost.

BORING to the highest level!!!

I never thought that I would say this…but I miss school!!! Yeah…so I stay at ATC everyday..I earn money to spend *wink wink* haha…new clothes! Yipee….

But it’s so boring to do the same thing everyday…It’s like that infinite loop in programming when I was in High school….and so I binge in front of the computer…

Just out of curiosity I bought a CD of Brave soul and tried it out…well it’s ok for a classic but then some of the images are not for my bro so …well…my mistake i guess…

have nothing to say…ciao!
